we are in!!

Jim is here, in the Helford Hospital at City of Hope, Duarte (for those who may have thought he was in the mid-Wilshire area) East 6219 is the room. Very nice room, view of both the mountains and the freeway and best yet, decent internet service.

Admitting was a breeze, RN Son is lovely and was on all the little details that make the difference -- like the bed extension for tall people.

To clarify another point of confusion, yes, visitors are VERY WELCOME. Jim is going to be here for a very long time, please come and bring word of the outside world. But, do not bring germs, plants or flowers- nothing living but yourselves. Check in with me, LN, if you can, to make sure your timing is good. There will be days when he is too tired to enjoy your company (no point in visiting Sleeping Beauty). Chemo should start later this evening, after blood and platelet transfusions (low, low counts today).

Really, it is a very exciting day.

  1. I hope that burger from yesterday was a nice vegan variety with fine whole grains and the best fermented soy curd topped by heirloom tomatoes and arugula followed by a ganache of carob infused with honey from native southern California honeybees with a hint of Eucalyptus. After dinner you could enjoy a sample of something wafting in from Washington state.

Hang in there guys! We are all pulling for you Jim! (speaking of pulling, I'm well into yet another Holiday rowing challenge trying now to use Christmas music to help the meters go by on the erg... Jim when you get done with this mess we'll have to lay the smack down on a 2 km record for former Finn sailors celebrating the 20+ anniversary of their 39th birthday.

  2. That beef burger was between two styrofoam hockey pucks, so it was very healthy.
